Why reading the table correctly matters

Many RFQs begin with a screenshot or a copied row from a size chart. That is a practical starting point, but it is not yet a final engineering selection because the table only shows geometry, not how the spring pack will behave in the application.

The real value of the chart is that it gives buyers a common dimensional language for discussion with engineering, sourcing and maintenance teams.

What each core dimension is really telling you

Outside diameter usually answers whether the spring will fit in the surrounding envelope. Inside diameter addresses bolt clearance or guidance. Thickness influences stiffness and load density, while free height relates to available deflection and installed travel reserve.

If one of those values is missing from the review, the spring may still match the chart but miss the application target.

  • OD for envelope fit and contact footprint.
  • ID for bolt clearance or guide compatibility.
  • Thickness for stiffness, load level and stack density.
  • Free height for travel reserve and installed compression window.

Why chart selection is only the first filter

Once the geometry row is identified, the next questions are about working deflection, single-spring load, stack arrangement, temperature and material. Those factors decide whether the dimension-table selection is commercially useful or just geometrically similar.

That is especially true when the job involves live loading, cyclic service or severe corrosion.

How buyers can use charts more efficiently in RFQ

If you quote from a size chart, include the standard reference, target load or working deflection, temperature range and whether the spring is used singly or in a stack. That turns a dimensional inquiry into a more accurate review and usually shortens the quotation cycle.

This also helps when the team is deciding between a standard part and a custom geometry adjustment.

よくある質問

Can I choose a disc spring only from a dimension chart row?

You can use the chart to shortlist geometry, but the final choice should still review load, deflection, stack logic and service conditions.

Which chart values matter most for force behavior?

Thickness and free height are usually the first values to review because they strongly affect stiffness and working travel.
