Why offshore service changes the material conversation
Offshore projects expose spring elements to salt environment, pressure, aggressive media and long service expectations at the same time. A washer that looks acceptable in a standard bolting catalog may not be acceptable once retrieval and inspection cost are included.
In many cases, an alloy upgrade is not a luxury. It is cheaper than sending people and equipment back to fix a preload or corrosion problem later.

Belleville washer stacks are used in offshore valve assemblies, HPHT systems, preload compensation hardware and bolted joints where elastic travel is needed to keep useful load.
They become especially relevant when access is difficult and preload loss could lead to leakage, performance drift or unscheduled shutdown.
Why Inconel 718 often appears in offshore RFQs
Inconel 718 appears frequently because it balances elevated-temperature capability, corrosion resistance and mechanical reliability better than many ordinary spring materials. It is not the answer to every offshore requirement, but it is a sensible starting point when the buyer cannot afford a weak material assumption.
The final choice still depends on service temperature, media, hold time under load, certificate needs and the maintenance interval the operator expects.
Questions that should be answered before approval
For offshore applications, buyers should define media exposure, temperature band, expected preload behavior, inspection needs and whether the spring pack belongs in a valve, flange or custom assembly.
Those details decide both alloy selection and geometry. Without them, the quote is only a material guess with a washer shape attached.
