Why live loading RFQs are different from standard washer RFQs

Live loading washers are not usually selected as generic hardware. They are part of a preload-retention system, which means the supplier needs to understand how the joint changes in service rather than just how the bolt is sized.

That is why simple part-name inquiries often lead to more revision rounds than buyers expect.

The information that speeds review most

Start with bolt size, target preload or packing stress, expected movement, temperature range, service media and the space available for the stack. If the project involves a valve or flange sealing system, note that clearly because the load window may be narrow.

Those details help the supplier decide whether the project needs a standard washer series, a stacked arrangement or a more application-specific review.

  • Operating temperature, media and maintenance constraints.

What often gets missed

Many RFQs mention hardware size but omit service movement, sealing sensitivity or temperature severity. Those missing items are often what determine whether live loading is necessary and what kind of spring pack is appropriate.

That is why a stronger RFQ often looks more like a small application brief than a commodity part request.

How to make the quotation more decision-ready

If you already know whether the project is for sampling, maintenance replacement or stable production, include that too. It helps align whether the supplier should focus on rapid concept support, tighter validation or long-term repeatability.

This also reduces confusion when the same live loading concept later moves into production approval.
